Minimum amount needed by an Express Entry or Permanent Resident applicant and Work-Study candidates for a successful Visa application

PROOF OF FUNDS

Proof of funds means settlement funds, this is how an Express Entry appliacnt shows the Canadian Federal Government that they have enough money in their bank account to settle in Canada, after they have been invited to apply, they must present a written proof that they have this money.

Permanent resident applicants are mandated to show their last 6 months statement of account and the reason why it's required is for them to check the applicants 6 months balance and also the source of the funds they are showing and also to confirm that there's no suspicious or sudden influx of funds or money into the account.

These funds should be readily available to the applicant and should be used without restrictions.

If the applicant receives a large sum of money, in their bank account as a gift, this sudden influx of funds will be justified, if the applicant is able to produce a gift deed.
This gift deed will justify the source of the funds.

For married applicants, whatever funds they have in a joint account, can be accounted towards their proof of funds, including the ones in the spouses name or account, if any.

Immigration, refugees and citizenship Canada (IRCC), has advice express entry candidates to always update their profiles, in order to show their annual changes and adjustments.

Read Canada Express Entry Program, for skilled workers

In Express entry program, all applicants are expected to provide a proof of documents. If you do not need to provide proof of funds, you must upload a letter of explanation.

EXAMPLE,
  • If you've been invited to apply under the Canada Experience Class
  • You have a valid job offer

With these proofs, you're not expected to provide proof of funds, you do not have to meet the funds requirement if you were invited to apply under the Canada Experience Class.

Candidates who were invited to apply under the Federal Skilled Worker Program or Federal Skilled Trades Program, are mandated to show that they meet the settlement funds requirement.
For proofs, they must get official letters from any bank or financial institution where you're keeping money.

The letters must Include:

  • All current bank and investment account.

  • Outstanding debts, such as credit card debts and loans.

  • In your express entry profile, you will be asked to include the amount of money you will have, to help you settle in Canada.

LIST OF ORGANIZATIONS THAT EVALUATE CREDENTIALS FOR PERMANENT RESIDENT (ECA) IN CANADA

Organizations that evaluate credentials

There are different organizations that evaluate  credentials in Canada and for different purposes.

An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is used to verify and confirm that your foreign degree, diploma, certificate (or other proof of your credential) is valid and equal to a Canadian one.

Citizenship and immigration Canada uses educational Credentials Assessment (ECA) reports to:

* Authenticate an applicants foreign credentials

* To determine the equivalent Completed Canadian Credentials.

The purpose of the report is to award immigration selection points to applicants or make program eligibility decisions.

Citizenship and immigration Canada has designed both multipurpose Assessment organization and professional bodies to assess foreign credentials.

The designed organizations are:

* World Education Services (WES)

* International Credentials Assessment Services of Canada

* Comparative Education Services (CES)

* International qualifications Assessment Services.

*International Credentials Evaluation Service.

These educational bodies are to authenticate and evaluate foreign educational credentials.

WES is mostly for degree evaluation, like; Computer, Management, etc
But if you studied Law, it's better to evaluate through IQAS, so that your degree will be equated as masters and not just a degree.
(5yrs degree and one year of law school).
That way, you're not loosing so much points.
Remember it's a point based system, where you get points based on the level of your education.

Most people also evaluate through ICES, mostly to avoid the stress of evaluating their WAEC or other reasons, they evaluate through ICES or IQAS, because these organizations do not evaluate WAEC.

People with professional courses that require license, like Medicine or courses that require license are to evaluate their credentials through...

The designated professional bodies are:

* Medical Council of Canada (MCC)

* Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC)

People with professional course must evaluate through a licenced body.
MCC for medicine and PEBC for pharmacy,
That way, when they get there, they will only write the professional exam, before they start practicing, without having to start all over.

These professional organizations are to authenticate and evaluate foreign educational credentials, to determine how they compare to a Canadian credentials. It is also considered a step towards the licensing process.

You must submit an ECA for all levels of completed foreign education, you want to be considered or be awarded points for. It is up to you to decide which credentials to have assessed by a designated organization.

Citizenship and immigration Canada only accepts the ECA for immigration purposes from one of the designated organization.

Your ECA must be less than 5years.

It's one of their requirements and among the documents you'll asked to upload, during filling of form.

For example, the proof of funds for the Canadian student visa is CA$10,000 at present, for every year of your stay.
But in Quebec the amount of funds required per year of your stay is CA$11,000

YOU CAN PROVE YOUR FUNDS BY

To meet the minimum requirements for express entry, proof of funds is also needed. All candidates are required to show proof of funds and this proof of finds must be readily available.

The Government of Canada has introduced a slight increase to its settlement funds requirement and is urging Express Entry candidates to ensure their profiles reflect the change.

The increase raises the required minimum settlement funds by just over 1.5 per cent for each family level.

For a single person arriving unaccompanied in Canada, this translates to an increase from $12,474 to $12,669.

All Federal Skilled Worker Class and

the Federal Skilled Trades Class
candidates must show proof of funds, which are required to ensure the principal applicant and her/his accompanying family members have the means to support themselves financially upon landing in Canada as permanent residents.

Canadian Experience Class candidates who are working in Canada on an eligible work permit are exempt from having to prove

they have the minimum settlement funds.

However, Canadian Experience Class candidates invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence through the Federal Skilled Worker Class will have to show proof of funds.

The total amount of money needed to support your family, depends on the number of family members, which includes
  • Yourself
  • Your spouse or Partner
  • Your dependent Children
